Yorkville Liquid MLP Index

The Yorkville Liquid MLP index is structured to facilitate institutional access to the MLP asset class. The index is comprised of the 25 most actively traded master limited partnerships. It utilizes a proprietary, liquidity-weighted methodology engineered to maximize daily trading volume. The index is rebalanced quarterly.

The Yorkville Liquid MLP Index gained 2.9% for the first quarter of 2017. YLMLP underperformed the Alerian MLP Index (“AMZX Index”), which returned 3.9%. The underperformance can primarily be attributed to weakness in large market capitalization MLPs during the quarter.

96% of the holdings in the Yorkville Liquid MLP Index (YLMLP) either increased or maintained their distributions in the first quarter of 2017 versus the prior year (1Q16). On average, the holdings produced year-over-year distribution growth of +1.3%. As of March 31, 2017 YLMLP held 3 MLPs which increased distributions by more than 10% on a year-over-year basis.

Total Return Contribution by Sector*

 

All but two of the MLP sectors represented in the YLMLP contributed positive total returns for the first quarter 2017. Gathering & Processing and Natural Gas Pipelines were the leading sectors for the second quarter, contributing gains of 190 and 80 basis points, respectively, to YLMLP’s total returns. Crude Oil Pipelines and Downstream detracted 40 basis points and 20 basis points, respectively, from quarterly performance.
