Yorkville Liquid MLP Index

The Yorkville Liquid MLP index is structured to facilitate institutional access to the MLP asset class. The index is comprised of the 25 most actively traded master limited partnerships. It utilizes a proprietary, liquidity-weighted methodology engineered to maximize daily trading volume. The index is rebalanced quarterly.

The Yorkville Liquid MLP Index gained 3.8 percent for the fourth quarter of 2016. YLMLP outperformed the Alerian MLP Index (“AMZX Index”), which returned 2.0 percent. The outperformance can primarily be attributed to the strong performance of large market capitalization, highly liquid MLPs. For 2017, YLMLP returned 27.5 percent versus 18.3 percent for the AMZX.

84% of the holdings in the Yorkville Liquid MLP Index (YLMLP) either increased or maintained their distributions in the fourth quarter of 2016 versus the prior year (4Q15). On average, the holdings produced year-over-year distribution growth of +0.8%. As of December 30, YLMLP held 6 MLPs which increased distributions by more than 10% on a year-over-year basis.

All but two of the MLP sectors represented in the YLMLP contributed positive total returns for the quarter. General Partners and Gathering & Processing, given the their high betas and high correlations to energy prices, were the leading sectors for the second quarter, contributing gains of 180 and 100 basis points respectively to the portfolio’s total returns. Marine Transportation and Downstream detracted minimally (<10 basis points) each.
