Darren R. Schuringa, CIO, CEO
Mr. Schuringa is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Yorkville Capital Management. Yorkville Capital Management, LLC, is a Registered Investment Advisor dedicated to researching and investing in master limited partnerships (MLPs).
Mr. Schuringa is focused on investing in U.S. energy infrastructure through the MLP structure and has developed several innovative and first-to-market MLP investment solutions. Mr. Schuringa is the lead portfolio manager on Yorkville’s top performing MLP Core Income Strategy, one of the oldest MLP-focused strategies in existence. The firm was recognized by Pensions & Investments as the 4th best performing strategy over the five years ending March 31, 2015 of all U.S. equity managers (1,740).
Prior to founding Yorkville Capital Management, Mr. Schuringa was a Partner with the energy-focused investment firm of Estabrook Capital Management. Mr. Schuringa was co-portfolio manager of a Morningstar five-star rated energy-centric mutual fund and he managed over $1.0B in institutional fund structures and managed accounts. His clients included some of world's largest pension funds and institutional investors.
Mr. Schuringa received a BA in Finance from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA in Finance from the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a member of New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA), and a member of MLP Association (MLPA).
James A. Hug, MBA
Mr. Hug is a pioneer in MLP research and investing. He began researching and investing in the asset class in the early 1990s. He is a regular member of Research Magazine's MLP Roundtable and appeared in Barron's MLP Roundtable published in August 2013.
Prior to joining Yorkville, Mr. Hug was with the investment firm Janney Montgomery Scott for over 20 years, where he conducted independent research on the MLP asset class. He used this research as the basis for a fundamental bottom-up approach to MLP investing and portfolio management. Mr. Hug has spent his career as research analyst and portfolio manager with the Wall Street firms of Adams and Peck, Brown Brothers Harriman, and Smith Barney.
Mr. Hug attended Brown University where he received a BA in Economics and Political Science. He was awarded an academic scholarship to the University of Chicago, where he earned his MBA with a major in Finance.
Mr. Edelstein is also a pioneer in MLP investing. He was the first member of our investment team to discover the MLP asset class, recognizing very early on the stable and growing income characteristics of the underlying energy infrastructure assets. Mr. Edelstein was a panel member in the most recent edition of Research Magazine's MLP Roundtable published July 2013.
Mr. Edelstein, whose investment career spans 30 years, has focused on and specialized in MLP investment since the sector's rebirth over 20 years ago. Mr. Edelstein has been a financial advisor since 1982, most recently in a Vice President role with Morgan Stanley.
Mr. Edelstein earned his BA from Cornell University and received graduate school fellowship from Case-Western Reserve University.
William N. Hershey
William N. Hershey joined Yorkville Capital Management in 2011 as an Analyst. He is currently Yorkville’s Head Trader and sits on the investment committee with trading and portfolio management responsibilities.
Mr. Hershey has served as the Head Trader for Yorkville Capital Management since 2014, overseeing the trading of the firm’s SMAs, mutual funds and hedge fund. Prior to this role, Mr. Hershey was responsible for overseeing the trading sub-advisor, Index Management Solutions, and its trading of Yorkville ETF Advisors’ two ETFs, YMLP and YMLI (NYSE Arca). The two ETFs reached approximately $400 million AUM at their peak during the time of Yorkville’s involvement. William is a contributor to Yorkville’s monthly newsletter, the “MLP Beat”, and has co-authored several whitepapers on the MLP asset class.
Mr. Hershey graduated from Vanderbilt University in May 2011. He received a BA in Economics with a minor in Finance. Mr. Hershey is currently a Level III candidate in the CFA program.
Nicholas Jenks, MBA
Mr. Jenks joined Yorkville as our Chief Global Strategist in December, 2008. Before coming to Yorkville, Mr. Jenks headed the US Embassy Office in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he conducted peace negotiations involving the government and 21 militia groups.
From 2002 to 2007 he was Director of Programs for the US Agency for International Development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, overseeing strategy and an annual budget of $150 million. His many previous assignments include Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, Peru, Lithuania, Azerbaijan and Angola, where he established an alliance with US oil companies to fund and implement a joint development program and served on the Joint Commission for Peace Negotiation between the government and UNITA rebels.
Mr. Jenks speaks French, Spanish, and Portuguese. He received a BA (Honors) in English and European Literature from the University of Montana and an MBA in Finance from the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College.
